As the 2023 year draws to a close, it's time to reflect on the remarkable successes and achievements at Parkdale Elementary. We've had a fulfilling and eventful journey, from celebrating our Parkdale families and local veterans to fostering empathy and instilling character values. Let's take a moment to revisit the highlights of our journey so far.

 Empowering Education at Parkdale
At Parkdale, our commitment to providing a comprehensive education remains unwavering. This year, we introduced "Eureka Squared," an enriched math program designed to cultivate a deep mathematical understanding, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Our focus on nurturing strong mathematical foundations ensures students are well-prepared for future challenges. Simultaneously, we continue to refine our Writer's Workshop program, emphasizing the importance of effective written communication. Through initiatives like Kagan Cooperative Learning Strategies and Restorative Circles, our dedicated teachers ensure every student receives a top-notch education.

Honoring Parkdale Families and Local Veterans
We recently took time to pay tribute to the backbone of our school community—Parkdale families and the brave local veterans from the American Legion. As we celebrated Veterans Day, it was heartwarming to witness the gratitude and admiration shown to those who have served our country. Their sacrifices have been the foundation of our freedom and security.

Spooktacular Halloween Parade and Fall Festival
Our Halloween Parade and Fall Festival brought joy and excitement once again. With an even bigger and better array of family-friendly activities, it was a day filled with laughter and delight. The sense of community was palpable, from tricks and treats to pumpkin decorating. We take pride in making these events an annual tradition that brings the Parkdale community together.

Fostering Character Values
This year, we've seen our Grade 4 students step into leadership roles by leading our monthly school-wide character assemblies. These assemblies focus on instilling values that make us proud to be part of the Parkdale community. Thus far this year, we have had assemblies focusing on being respectful, responsible, showing gratitude, and empathy. Our Parkdale Pride is emphasized through engaging activities that encourage students to exhibit these values daily. In December, we are delving into the character trait of empathy. Students have worked hard on a WNY FeedMore project, contributing to a cause that reflects our commitment to giving back to the community. Each grade level has activities planned to showcase empathy. Our Grade 4 students are planning a heartwarming trip to Absolute Care of East Aurora.

 Character-Strong Social-Emotional Learning Program
Our Character Strong social-emotional learning program continues to positively impact our students' lives. This year, teachers have dove into read-aloud books that demonstrate the monthly character traits, allowing students to connect to these traits and increase their love of literacy. Parents are encouraged to participate at home, using Character Strong Family Connection activities to foster partnerships that teach these essential traits and emphasize the strong connection between school and family.

Incredible PTO Support
We're grateful to our generous PTO for supporting monthly assemblies that include special guests like The UP Guys, who inspire our students with stories of hard work and dedication and amazing author visits. Again this year, we have planned an author visit to our school in addition to several other guests, including Cris Johnson and Kevin McCarthy. The PTO/Parkdale partnership is crucial to our school community's success. Kudos to the Parkdale PTO for their commitment to our mission and values.

Introducing After-School Clubs
We're excited to share the success of our new after-school clubs, including the Spirit Club, Parkdale Podcast Club, and STEAM Club. The Spirit Club created beautiful “EA” canvases celebrating our outstanding Board of Education. Season 1 of our Parkdale Podcast Club is now live on Spotify under "Parkdale Pride Podcast." Students can listen to episodes that capture the essence of Parkdale and the stories of our community. Finally, our newly launched STEAM Club provides a platform for budding scientists, engineers, artists, and mathematicians to explore their passions through captivating activities and projects. From science experiments to coding and problem-solving, our students are on a path to discovering their talents and honing their skills.

Looking Ahead with Enthusiasm
As we conclude the first part of the academic year, we look ahead with enthusiasm and determination. The success stories and accomplishments at Parkdale inspire us to continue fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging environment where students, families, and the community come together to make every day special.

We thank all our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and the incredible students who make Parkdale a place where dreams and accomplishments are celebrated. We plan to carry this momentum into 2024, where we'll create even more memories, learn, and grow together.

Here's to a bright future and a year filled with promise at
