At East Aurora Schools, assessment and grading are more than numbers on a report card — they are essential tools for supporting student growth and success. To ensure grading practices are clear, consistent, and meaningful, the district is taking steps to review and refine how progress and achievement are measured.
Over the past school year, educators have been exploring ways to improve assessment, grading, and reporting practices. Now, the district is seeking feedback from parents, guardians, students, teachers, administrators, and instructional support staff to guide future improvements.
To assist in this process, East Aurora Schools has partnered with GradingRx®, a nationally recognized organization that specializes in assessment and grading practices. GradingRx® will help the district gather feedback through an online survey and provide expert insight as East Aurora evaluates its approach.
“We believe that effective grading requires shared understanding,” said Superintendent Brian D. Russ. “This process will help us align the perspectives of students, families, and teachers so that grading is supportive of every child’s success.”
How to Participate
Parents/guardians of students in grades 5–12, as well as students themselves, are encouraged to participate in the Assessing & Grading Survey, which takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete. Teachers, administrators, and instructional support staff are also invited to share their views.
The survey is completely anonymous, and all responses are confidential. To ensure accuracy, only fully completed surveys will be included in the results. The survey closes on October 6, 2025.
Parents/guardians with more than one child enrolled in grades 5–12 are asked to complete one survey per student, responding according to each child’s grade level.
Parents/Community Members: For question 3, please select the last choice "none".
Next Steps
Feedback collected from this survey will guide the district and the GradingRx® team in refining East Aurora’s grading and assessment practices. The goal is to create a system that is transparent, equitable, and reflective of the needs of the entire school community.
