This summer, a group of adventurous East Aurora students set off on the educational journey of a lifetime, traveling across France and Italy from June 30 to July 10. Led by high school teacher Mr. Serwicki, with the support of chaperones Mr. Richard Walton and Dr. John Improta, the group immersed themselves in history, culture, and once-in-a-lifetime moments at every turn.
From medieval landmarks to ancient ruins, sparkling coastlines to timeless art, the highlights of the trip were truly nonstop.
In France, students explored the historic streets of Avignon, climbed the amphitheater in Nîmes, swam beneath the iconic Pont du Gard, and sampled escargot! In Nice, they wandered through open-air markets, biked the Promenade des Anglais, and swam in the Mediterranean before climbing Castle Hill for breathtaking views.
Their journey through Italy was equally unforgettable. Students explored the ruins of Pompeii, cruised around the island of Capri, jumped off seaside rocks, and even swam under a waterfall. In Rome, they walked through three Roman forums, stood in awe beneath the Sistine Chapel, tossed coins into the Trevi Fountain, and biked along the ancient Via Appia. From catacombs to cobblestone piazzas, every step was steeped in learning and discovery.
None of this would have been possible without the guidance of tour director Caroline Sidi, whose expertise and enthusiasm enriched every stop on the itinerary. The chaperones provided steady leadership and encouragement throughout the journey, ensuring a meaningful and smooth experience for all.
Of course, the stars of the trip were the students themselves—Seamus, Jack, Hudson, Mika, Ava, Charlotte, Kamryn, and Allison—who represented East Aurora with curiosity, respect, and a spirit of exploration. Their positive attitudes and openness to new experiences made them exceptional ambassadors for our school community.
“This trip was more than sightseeing,” said Mr.Serwicki. “It was about stepping into history, building connections with one another, and growing as individuals. Watching our students engage so thoughtfully with the world around them was a true privilege.”
We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful to the families who supported this opportunity. Thank you for helping to give our learners the world—literally!
