Sunday, February 11th @ 2:00 PM

East Aurora, NY: East Aurora High School’s  Musical Theatre Arts will be presenting the  student-produced musical, Mamma Mia! at East Aurora High School. Mamma Mia! is the smash hit based on the movie from 2008 which contains world-famous songs from ABBA.

Mamma Mia! opens on the coast of Greece with Sophie sending wedding invitations to three men,  one of whom is her father…but she doesn’t know which one. Her mother, Donna, has all but forgotten her past flings now that she runs a hotel in the islands. She’s busy preparing for Sophie’s wedding to Sky with the help of her old friends and bandmates, Rosie and Tanya. Once her past becomes her present with the arrival of Sam, Bill and Harry, Donna must confront love once again just as her daughter tries to learn the truth about her father.

It’s hard not to get up and dance when the music of ABBA fills the stage. It’s a “jukebox musical” that  intertwines new and old songs making the perfect backdrop for the fun, complex plot about love and family. On Broadway, Jenny Galloway won “Best Supporting Role” as Rosie and Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus won for “Best Musical Score”.

Students are finding it exciting to play characters based on songs with exaggerated traits yet realistic obstacles.  Chemistry was important in casting, especially for comedy. Actors like Kyleigh Eschborn and Natalie Jones humorously support Donna, played by Lily Brannon who is a hotel owner faced with her past. Allie Morgan brings Sophie, Donna’s daughter, to life with vivacious singing and acting. Alex Morgan, Noah Suckow and David Safford work very well together as Donna’s ex’s, each of whom has their own secrets. Much responsibility is placed on students in both cast and crews. Audrey Watts & Eli Bachman head up the stage crew while dance captains Sara Healy and Caitlyn Bernys run a tight ship for cast. Some students pull double duty as costume crew and actors.

Mamma Mia! is sure to please with comedy, upbeat songs and exciting dancing… everything that makes a musical one of America’s favorite forms of entertainment.

The event is $12.00 presale and $14.00 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.onthestage.tickets/show/east-aurora-high-school-musical-theater-arts/6594731835c8f80e3b880d77/tickets.
