Non-Public School Transportation Requests
NOTICE
EAST AURORA UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT
NON-PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND SPECIAL TRANSPORTATION REQUEST
Parents or guardians who wish to request transportation for the upcoming school year for pupils attending non-public (private) schools located outside the East Aurora Union Free School District must do so, in writing, no later than April 1. The parent's residence for out-of-district (non-public) transportation may be no more than 15 miles from the school for which transportation is requested. Students whose parent's residence is more than 15 miles from the school they attend may be eligible for transportation from a central pick-up point if the district is currently transporting other students who live 15 miles or less from that school.
Parents or guardians who wish to request transportation for the upcoming school year for pupils to and from school in those instances where the child will not be picked up or dropped off at his or her residence (daycare, baby-sitter's), must do so, in writing, by April 1. The district will accept requests to change the initial pick up and drop off arrangements, if due to an emergency situation or unavoidable change in child care arrangements, until August 10th. Requests made on or after August 11th will not be implemented until the third week of school.
Once a child has been assigned to a bus route from home or child care to school in the morning and vice-versa at the end of the school day, requests for changes in bus routes will not be approved. District is accountable for the location and safety of children using the school transportation system, therefore, all bus route assignments must be consistent. In accordance with the Board of Education policy, no student may ride a bus other than that which he/she has been assigned.

Please remember that these are APPROXIMATE times and that it is strongly suggested that students are at their bus stops, at a minimum, of 5 minutes prior to their estimated pick up time.
Bus Discipline and Rules
Rules of conduct for bus riders have been established by the Superintendent of Schools and are distributed to all students before or during the first week of school each year.
Students who violate rules of conduct for bus riders may be suspended from bus riding privileges for a maximum of five days for any one offense. Repeated or flagrant violators may be suspended for periods of time longer than five days. Riding the bus is a privilege and may be withdrawn if the student does not comply with the District's rules and regulations.
Students riding school buses are expected to conform to the rules of conduct in order to permit the bus driver to transport his/her passengers safely.
Suspension from bus riding privileges up to five days may be given by building principals. Suspension for periods of time greater than five days may be given only by the Superintendent of Schools. Such long-term suspensions will be given only after a conference with the parent/guardian of the student.
Students suspended from bus riding privileges are required to continue to be in attendance in school.
The Superintendent of Schools has developed guidelines for school bus drivers for disciplining students and procedures for reporting incidents to the appropriate school officials.

RULES FOR BUS RIDERS
I. PREFACE
Transportation to and from school and sponsored activities is a privilege. School authorities can deny this privilege for a period of time to any child who is disorderly or insubordinate. These rules have been formulated in the interest of the safety of all of our children. Therefore, the school expects to receive parental student cooperation at all times. Bus riders are expected to respect the rights and property of others.
II. BOARDING AND LEAVING BUSES
Pupils are to be at appointed bus stops 5 to 10 minutes prior to arrival of the bus. The bus will not wait for late comers.
Pupils are to wait at bus stops in a quiet and orderly manner. They must be considerate of the property of others, particularly if the bus stop is a location other than their own house.
Pupils may not attempt to board or leave a bus which is in motion.
Pupils who must cross a street before boarding or after leaving a bus must:
Wait for a signal from the bus driver before starting across the street.
Walk at least 10 feet in front of the bus.
Never cross behind the bus.
III. WHILE ON THE BUS
Pupils must remain seated at all times.
Pupils must not place any part of their bodies outside of bus windows.
Pupils must be reasonably quiet and orderly. Shouting and loud noises are not permitted.
Instructions of the bus driver must be obeyed.
Food or beverages may not be consumed on the bus.
Smoking on the bus is not permitted.
IV. MISCELLANEOUS
Bulky packages, large musical instruments, or potentially dangerous objects may not be brought onto a bus.
Pupils residing within walking limits may not ride the bus.
In accordance with the Board of Education policy, no student may ride any bus other than that to which he has been assigned.
Once a child has been assigned to a bus route from home or child care to school in the morning and vice-versa at the end of the school day, requests for changes in bus routes will not be approved. In order that the District may be accountable for the location and safety of children using the school transportation system, all bus route assignments must be consistent; that is, students may not ride one bus route one day, a second bus route the next day and so on.
These rules apply equally to regular school transportation, field trips, team trips, corrective buses and spectator buses, whether furnished by the school or under charter to a school organization.
