Enjoy working with children
Pass a reference check and criminal background check*
A 4-year degree (any subject) is required to be a substitute TEACHER
A High School Diploma/GED is required to be a substitute AIDE or CLEANER

Types of Substitute Assignments and Pay Rates:
"per diem" substitutes:
Daily substitute for teacher, aide, or cleaner. A daily plan will be left for you to complete the necessary task. Teachers are assigned to supervise students and provide instruction, aides are assigned to help with student, classroom, or building needs; cleaners are given a 'run' of rooms to prepare for the next day's activities.
Cleaner: $15.00/ hour
Aide: $15.26/hour
Teacher: $125 Non-Certified, $150 Certified, $160 Retired teachers (NYSTRS)
Clerical: $18.50/ hour
"Regular" substitutes:
Teachers ONLY - guaranteed regular work to cover an on-going absence in the same class/assignment (from 6 days up to one semester): After 30 consecutive calendar days in same assignment payrate gets moved to $199.78/day
"Long Term" substitutes:
Teachers ONLY - guaranteed regular work to cover an on-going absence in the same class/assignment (one semester or longer). Appropriate certification (or relevant experience) required. Negotiated salary according to EAFA contract. Includes benefits and perks!

You're helping us out and it's in our (and our student's!) best interest to make you successful! The teachers understand that you may not be an expert - they will leave you manageable step-by-step plans! We understand that setting behavior expectations are difficult - you're colleagues and the main office will help! We understand that there is a lot of new technology at use in the classroom - we make it user-friendly and, when in doubt - just ask the students !

*To work in any school in NYS, you need to have your fingerprints on files with NYS Education Department (NYSED).
This only needs to be done ONCE to work in any/all Districts however, the individual must pay for fingerprinting themselves.
