• Absences:  Please call the office (652-2353) in the morning to report your child’s absence.  A note stating why your child was absent is due the day your child returns to school.

Snack: We will have ‘class snack’ everyday. The beginning of each month I would ask that you send in a bag of prepackaged snacks such as pretzels, crackers, graham crackers, goldfish or popcorn.

Lunch:  The class has lunch from 10:40-11:15.  Please mark lunch boxes or bags with your child’s name.  Lunch money should be sent in a small change purse, Ziploc bag, or envelope with your child’s name.  You may also prepay if you wish.

Recreation:  The class has outdoor recreation from 1:45-2:10.  Please send your child to school dressed for the weather.  During the winter, students need a warm coat, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves/mittens to be able to participate in Rec. During the muddy season, students should bring old sneakers or mud/rain boots to school.  If we are unable to go outside, we will have indoor recreation. Toys from home need to be sent in for indoor recreation in a gallon-size Ziploc bag.  The toy must be able to fit inside a gallon-size bag.  Electronic toys are not allowed in school.  Please make sure everything is marked with your child’s name.

Birthdays:  We love to celebrate birthdays in our classroom. Feel free to send in a birthday treat for the class on your child’s special day. If your child’s birthday does not fall on a school day, you may contact me with a day that works for you. If needed, please provide spoons and napkins.

Take Home Folders & Homework:  Please check your child’s folder daily.  Homework will be placed inside the homework pouch.  Math & ELA homework will be sent home periodically, but not on Fridays. Tricky words, and spelling words are in the take home folder and students should practice these words at home. Required reading for first grade is 60 minutes per week.  This may be reading to self, or reading to someone.  In addition, parents are encouraged to read to their children. Students should also practice their basic addition and subtraction facts during the week.

Book Orders:  At the beginning of every month, I will send home Scholastic book order forms.  Please order by the date indicated on the forms.  Please do not send cash.  All checks should be made payable to Scholastic Book Clubs. If you choose, you may order online with a classroom code (TMR7P). Not only is online ordering easy, the website also includes many more options than the fliers.

Box Tops:  We will be collecting Box Tops as a class. Parkdale has contests throughout the year.  Please collect Box Tops to help earn money for our classroom! Thank you for supporting this PTO initiative.

Parties: At Open House, parents will have the opportunity to sign up to be a party volunteer to assist during the party or by sending in supplies and food donations. I will be happy to work with parents to assist in planning the parties (Halloween, Holiday and Valentine’s Day). The party money collected in the beginning of the school year will help pay for supplies for crafts and other station projects.
