• Our Community Education program is leaner this fall, but there is good news--we still have our students’ favorite courses, and with four new offerings, we continue to offer a wide variety of learning experiences for adults and teens. A total of thirty-eight East Aurora courses in fitness, creative arts and writing, academics and driving skills join hundreds of online offerings for community members

Our four new offerings—Outdoor Skills/Backpacking Basics, Christmas Concert at OLV Basilica, Just Once Guitar and Aquafit—joined our program to tempt you back to school this fall.

outdoors Outdoor Skills and Backpacking Basics will challenge you to try a new adventure, as you learn survival skills with NYS Licensed Guide Ed Kasperek, who also is president of the Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue Team and a member of the Adirondack 46ers. In three evening sessions, Mr. Kasperek will train new backpackers in physical conditioning, camping, food, clothing, equipment, navigation, travel, hygiene, water purification, “leave no trace” and gear—all that you need to know to have fun and survive in the back country.

olv dome Music lovers will be thrilled at an opportunity to have a behind-the-scenes experience with Buffalo Choral Arts Society Conductor Marcia Gaimbrone, and then enjoy a breathtaking choral and brass Christmas concert in the ornate Old World setting of Our Lady of Victory Basilica.  One hundred ten Buffalo Choral Arts Society members, accompanied by the Buffalo Choral Arts Brass ensemble, will perform John Ruttner’s GLORIA and holiday season works by Handel, Simeone, Holst and others. Conductor Marcia Giambrone is celebrating her 25th anniversary with this esteemed group during the 2011 - 2012 concert season.

Other offerings in the arts include digital photography, Just ONCE Guitar (learn to play in three hours), and the very popular Ballroom Dancing with Barbara Bradley,

Janet Marks’ new Aquafit joins Aquacise and Lap Swimming to offer another facet to pool exercise, with deep water aerobics for stretching, toning and strengthening. All three take place in the refurbished Middle School pool, and spaces fill fast.

On dry land, our perennial favorite fitness courses include numerous weekly sessions—early morning, daytime and evening—of Yoga, Step Aerobics/Circuit Training and Stronger Bodies/Stronger Bones. The courses all feature flexibility, aerobic activity and strength training for adults.

Our returning courses remain popular, and for good reason. If you’ve always wanted to write but never got around to it, you have no excuse not to begin this fall. With offerings from either of two local authors, Rick Ohler and Tony Izzo, you can write your novel, get creative, or record your personal family history.

Other classroom offerings include French or Spanish for business or travel, everyday law for individuals and families, improving your driving skills, learning to play bridge (or increase your playing skills), and a workshop for parents on discipline.

Finally, you also can try a proven online program that makes it easy for you to take high-quality, courses, no matter where you are located.
