In accordance with the national school library guidelines as set forth in Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning (1998),the Parkdale Elementary School Library Media Program strives to cultivate the natural curiosity of our students, while guiding them to become effective users of ideas and information.

In order to accomplish this Mrs. Laben will:

  • Emphasize and encourage a love of reading
  • Teach skills necessary to locate, evaluate, and use resources
  • Provide access and exposure to materials in a variety of formats
  • Collaborate with other educators to provide resources and learning
opportunities that support the curriculum while meeting the needs
    of individual students
  • Present resources and activities that cover a range of experiences,
    ideas, opinions, and perspectives
  • Support the concept that intellectual freedom and access to
information are prerequisites to effective and responsible citizenship in a democracy.

In addition to their scheduled library time,
all students are welcome to come to the library to exchange books, work on projects, read on their own, do research, or do homework whenever their classroom schedule permits.
