Homework Policy:
This year your child will have homework as follows:  Usually each night your child will have a short homework page to complete, spelling words to study for the weekly test on Thursday and at home reading time (as logged onto the Reading Homework Calendar for that month).  Your child should also be reviewing their math facts of addition and subtraction through 18 and beginning to memorize the multiplication and division facts.  Children will receive a math page, a "Jumpstart" homework page or another page of homework as it applies to our work in the classroom.  I will try to avoid assigning a homework sheet on the night before the spelling test.
The math or other homework sheet is passed out each morning and the children have the option of beginning it and or completing their homework during the day.  If they (or you) prefer it be completed at home that night as formal homework that is fine.  Please check it over and have your child return it the next morning when I will be checking the papers over and giving credit to those who have returned their completed homework.  If papers are handed in to me and there are many errors I may write "Redo" on the paper.  I will not issue credit for completion until it has been redone and corrected and handed back into me.
When your child returns his or her completed Reading Calendar at the end of the month or the beginning of the next month they will be credited with four completed homework papers.  It is desired that each month your child will spend more time reading at home than they did the previous month.  I will be recording their progress throughout the year.
If your child is absent or has forgotten their homework they should bring it into school the next day when they return to class.  I will then issue them credit for completing their homework.
If you have any questions about the homework or how you can assist your child at home please let me know.  I will be more than happy to help you.
